Kalvi evolved from Centre for Montessori Training Chennai which was established in 1998 to educate and train teachers in the Montessori Method of education.

CMT-C merges with Kalvi
Kalvi was established in 2006, to bring under its umbrella a larger section of children who can benefit from the experiential learning of the Montessori Method. In 2007, CMT-C merged with Kalvi, to undertake a larger spectrum of research and education work.

What Kalvi does
Partnerships with non-profit public and private institutions
Kalvi began with CMT-C as a teacher training organisation, but we find the next step of partnering with funders and public entities to improve educational systems equally significant. Kalvi has come together with NGOs, government bodies, corporates, health societies, rehabilitation centres, trusts, and individuals to empower educationists and benefit needy children.

Workshops for caregivers and teachers
Kalvi offers sequences of workshops for parents, teachers, helpers, and child-care workers to better understand the needs of children, and improve their skills as caregivers and teachers.

Activity-based support for convalescing children
Kalvi is gaining experience in creating learning environments to help ailing children during their convalescence, to enhance their well-being,

Research and documentation
Kalvi believes that documentation and research are critical for formative feedback, reflection, refinement, and dissemination efforts.

Train-the-trainer programmes

Kalvi works closely with experienced Montessori teachers to help them become trainers of teachers. These trainers are then equipped to independently train Montessori teachers.

Institutional development programmes

Kalvi plans to share its expertise with schools, trusts and societies to help them adopt the time-tested Montessori Method in a planned manner.
