This
diploma course is a 91/2 month program beginning
in July at the start of the academic year and
concluding in April of the following year.The
lecture sessions are from 10a.m. to 1p.m., Monday
through to Friday . In addition , the students
have to attend practical classes of two hours
duration three times a week.
The course contents include child psychology theory
of the Montessori method, practical demonstration
lectures and practical work with educational material.

Child psychology deals with the development
of the child from birth to six years as expounded
by Dr.Maria Montessori.
The theory of the Montessori method deals
with the origin and development of the Montessori
method . It focuses on the role and attitude of
the adult, the function of the environment that
is specially prepared for the child as well as
the material that are offered to the child in
a Montessori environment.
The practical demonstration lectures
deal specifically with the scientific nature of
the Montessori apparatus and the techniques of
offering these to the child.
The practical work focuses on giving the
students adequate time to work with the educational
apparatus . This enables them to understand the
underlying principles and the purpose they, serve.Thus
they gain the knowledge and confidence of knowing
when and how to present them to the children.
Students have to prepare files/albums around a
variety of subjects dealt with on the course.
Students are also expected to observe working
Montessori schools during the training period
for which arrangements are made by the training
center. During this period the students has to
be prepared to work extra hours.
Minimum qualifications
for joining the course are that the candidate
should have:
i) completed plus
two (although graduates are preferred)
ii) command over written
and spoken English
iii) completed 18 years of age
At the end of the course there are examinations-two
written papers and one practical /oral examination.
The students receive their diplomas from the Indian
Montessori Centre, Banglore.
The diploma qualifies them to work in a Montessori
school for children between the ages 2 ½
and 6 years or start a Montessori environment
on their own.
